Industrial landscape

Port Kembla's steelworks have been in production since early in the twentieth century and are the economic backbone of the region. Periodic rumours of their impending closure over the last 20 years has brought concern to businesses that rely on the steelworks for raw material and on its workforce for income.

Picture taken mid-afternoon, against the light, looking west to the escarpment of the Great Dividing Range.
