Storm over northern beaches

They empty crowded beaches in minutes, scattering swimmers and sunbakers to search for shelter. Sydney's summer afternoon storms appear rapidly, accompanied by a marked temperature fall, strong winds, heavy rain and, sometimes, the hail that makes them so destructive. The Sydney region is prone to storms moving up from the south on hot summer afternoons.
